Gouda gets it’s name from the picturesque town of Gouda where the cheese has been traded for centuries. Old Amsterdam rates as the most popular old Gouda cheese with the Dutch. It is a mature cheese containing less salt and melts readily, making it ideal for culinary use.
It presents a rich and buttery walnut start with hints of caramel and butterscotch on the finish.
Old Amsterdam is excellent grated on pasta and also perfect for most recipes where melted cheese is required. It is excellent on it’s own and served with a glass of Belgian beer, but also an excellent companion for a sturdy mature red Bordeaux or a glass of vintage port.
